Creative Studio Photography Using Greco Wall 3 Landscape
WITH RUSS TURNER
Follow along for an exclusive behind the scenes look at two incredible shoots from photographer Russ Turner featuring the Greco Wall 3 Landscape. We’ll dive into the creative inspiration that shaped each concept, break down the technical details from lighting choices to camera and lens setup, and explore the thought process behind turning an idea into striking final images. This is a closer look at how vision, collaboration, and technical precision come together in artistic photography.
CHOOSING THE BACKDROP
Backdrops that feature soft greys, warm taupes, muted florals or have a painterly quality are goof options to look for. A backdrop with these qualities acts as a canvas that can be quickly restyled to deliver multiple looks. A little visual texture goes a long way when you plan to reuse the same drop for multiple shoots.
A major part of establishing the tone came from the use of the Greco Wall 3 Landscape backdrop. Its textured appearance and darker elegance created an ideal environment for the concept, adding depth and character to every frame. Rather than allowing the backdrop to fade into the background, the lighting design intentionally highlighted its texture to make it an active visual element within the composition.
Unique Bridal Shoot
The theme for this month’s shoot was “Bridal,” but rather than leaning into the bright, airy style often associated with modern wedding photography, photographer Russ Turner chose to explore a darker and more dramatic direction. The goal was to create imagery that felt moodier, more cinematic, and fitting for an edgier alternative bridal aesthetic. Model Desi Lynn helped bring that vision to life with a striking presence that perfectly complemented the atmosphere of the set.
The styling choices played an important role in tying the entire concept together. Desi Lynn wore a sheer silver embroidered sleeveless V-neck dress with delicate lace detailing that added softness and elegance while still fitting the darker, alternative bridal theme. The intricate textures of the dress worked beautifully with the moody lighting setup, allowing highlights and shadows to enhance the fabric’s detail throughout the shoot. To complement both the wardrobe and the atmosphere, a burgundy dark red floral rose bouquet was selected as the primary prop. The deep tones of the bouquet echoed the floral elements within the Greco Wall 3 Landscape backdrop, helping create a cohesive color palette that unified the entire scene with richness and sophistication.

Lighting THE SCENE
Lighting played a critical role in shaping the final look of the images. The primary key light was a Godox AD600Pro fitted with a Godox Beauty Dish, which illuminated the model’s face while still allowing shadows to deepen naturally across the frame. A white reflector was used to subtly fill and soften shadows without eliminating the dramatic contrast. To create separation between the subject and backdrop, two Godox AD200 units equipped with gridded strip boxes were positioned strategically for edge lighting and background illumination.
To further enhance the scene, an additional Godox AD100 mounted on a boom stand was directed toward the backdrop to emphasize texture and detail within the environment. The layered lighting approach gave the final images a rich sense of dimension while preserving the darker mood that defined the concept.
Camera Specs
The shoot was captured using a Canon R6 Mark II paired with a Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8 lens combination. The flexibility of the zoom range made it easy to transition between tighter portraits and wider environmental compositions without sacrificing image quality.
POST-Production & Final Thoughts
Editing was intentionally kept minimal to highlight the subject and makeup. The final result is a collection of clean, refined headshots that balance artistry with practicality images well-suited for websites and social media, that showcases the thoughtful lighting, cohesive styling, and the creative collaboration that brought the shoot together.
In the end, this shoot aimed to balance elegance, drama, and creative experimentation. By combining layered lighting, textured backgrounds, and a darker visual approach, Russ Turner was able to reimagine traditional bridal imagery into something far more cinematic and expressive. With the help of Desi Lynn and a carefully crafted lighting setup, the final images captured an alternative bridal aesthetic that feels both timeless and boldly unconventional.
