Creative Studio Photography Using Bridge To Paris

WITH LISA ASP

This blog dives into the creative intent behind each setup, detailing the technical choices from lighting design to camera and lens selection and guiding readers through the journey of turning an initial idea into striking final images. It offers a behind-the-scenes perspective on how artistic vision, collaboration, and technical expertise come together to shape compelling photography. In this particular session, the photographer was inspired to do a Parisian themed shoot.

CHOOSING THE BACKDROP

Printed backdrops offer photographers the ability to create a sense of place without ever leaving the studio. They provide rich visual context, depth, and storytelling elements that would otherwise require travel, permits, and unpredictable weather conditions. With high-quality printing and realistic perspective, these backdrops add dimension to an image while maintaining full control over lighting and composition. Photographers can seamlessly match their subject to environments that enhance the theme of a session whether romantic, urban, seasonal, or whimsical while working in a consistent, controlled space. This combination of creative flexibility and practical efficiency makes location-printed backdrops an incredibly valuable tool in modern studio photography.

A Parisan Inspired Shoot

French Bulldogs are known for their expressive faces and spirited charm, and each one brings a distinct personality to the table. Remington was no exception. From the moment he stepped onto the set, he carried himself with a confident curiosity that translated beautifully on camera. He responded enthusiastically to posing, fillu engaging with the photographer.

To further elevate the Parisian theme, a carefully curated selection of props was gathered to complement the Bridge to Paris backdrop. Each piece was chosen with intention, designed to echo the romantic, European atmosphere suggested by the printed scene. Several creative concepts were mapped out ahead of time, from subtle accents to more styled arrangements that would enhance the storytelling element of the portraits. However, working with a busy canine model requires flexibility, and time constraints meant that not every planned setup could be fully realized. Even so, the elements that were incorporated blended seamlessly into the composition. Rather than overwhelming the scene, they enhanced it adding texture, context, and visual interest while maintaining focus on Remington. The result was a cohesive aesthetic that felt thoughtfully styled yet effortless, reinforcing the charm and elegance of the overall shoot.

Lighting THE SCENE

Lighting played a critical role in shaping the final images. Three Flashpoint strobes were carefully positioned to create dimension and polish.

  • The main light, placed camera left at approximately 90 degrees with a softbox set to 1/4 power, sculpted Remington’s face and added depth.
  • A rim light positioned in the back right corner with a strip box also at 1/4 power provided separation from the backdrop and accentuated his compact silhouette.
  • A subtle fill light mounted above the camera at 1/32 power gently softened shadows without flattening the overall look.

Camera Specs

The session was captured using a Canon R5 paired with a versatile 24–105mm lens. Settings were dialed in at 1/125 sec and f/7.1 to ensure sharp detail while maintaining enough depth of field to highlight both subject and backdrop. The lens choice allowed flexibility throughout the session, moving seamlessly between tighter portraits that emphasized Remington’s expressive features and wider compositions that showcased the Parisian-inspired scene.

POST-Production & Final Thoughts

In the end, the session came together beautifully, exceeding expectations. The Parisian themed backdrop features architecture and subtle perspective lines creating a convincing sense of depth that added dimension to every frame.

Paired with Remington’s handsome visage and expressive personality, the carefully crafted lighting setup brought everything to life. The sculpted main light defined his features, the rim light provided crisp separation, and the subtle fill maintained softness without sacrificing contrast. Together, these elements produced images that felt intentional and refined. The final portraits carried a polished, Parisian-inspired elegance sophisticated yet full of character all created seamlessly within the controlled comfort of the studio.
