USING THE RIGHT LIGHTING FOR STUDIO PORTRAITS

WITH GRONDE PHOTOGRAPHY

Hi my name is Chris Gronde I am a senior portrait photographer based out of Indianapolis. The concept of today's photoshoot was to have a very urban/grungy New York Style of a ballet dancer who is dancing her way through the streets and subway of New York in normal workout gear. Something you might see in a Nike Ad. The Abandoned Station backdrop was perfect for this concept.  We used our mainlight from a very high angle downward to give the feeling of the overhead lights you would find in a subway and then because of the window light on the background itself we wanted to add a rim light from the back so that the "light" in the background visually made sense on our subject.  When you have a "realistic" backdrop like this that has elements of light on it, you want to make sure that "representation of a light source" visually makes sense in your final image and I think we accomplished that well.
