HALLOWEEN STUDIO PORTRAITS
WITH GRONDE PHOTOGRAPHY
Welcome to a Halloween special edition of Roll for Portrait (based on Roll for Sandwich on TikTok) with Gronde Photography. We will let dice decide the style of portrait we're going to take today. Today we're working with our model Riley. We're going to do a special kind of Halloween edition with her outfit here. Let's see what the dice have for us.
BACKGROUND
For the background, we rolled a three, which means we're going to be using the Neon Wall Art 2 background from Background Town. This is an ultra cloth background, and it’s super highly detailed. I love it.

LIGHTING
First up is lighting. We rolled a 2, so we're going to be using strobe lights today. And once again, we're going to be using the AD-B2 with two 8200 batteries and a 27" beauty dish from Glow.
LENS
Next up is the lens, and we rolled a one, which means we're going to be using the 85 millimeter 1.8. Every portrait photographer needs a trusty 85 millimeter lens.
ADDED DETAILS
The other dice is a five, which means we're going to be using some type of lamp. For our lamps we have this triple Edison bulb rope light that we got off Amazon. We have it clamped to a boom arm here. And, what's Halloween without a little smoke? We will definitely be adding that as well during the photoshoot.
FOREGROUND FEATURES
FInally, we have the wild magic roll. And looks like we rolled a three, which means we're going to be using flowers of some kind. For flowers, instead of having her hold some type of bouquet, I'm going to have these clamped to light stands, and then I'm going to shoot through them as a foreground element.
FINAL IMAGES
All right, so that's it for this Halloween photoshoot. We rolled a perfect roll. I love, love, love, love, love the Neon Wall Art 2 background from Background Town. We added the rope lights as the lamp and then used the flowers to shoot through rather than have her hold them. If I had some black roses or something, that would've been cool, but this is what we had in the studio so that's what we used. I’m curious to know if this is how you would've shot it. Would you have used the flowers this way? Would you have picked a different lamp?
